rules and f.a.q.
We've got a few basic rules - nothing too exciting. We're just hoping to create a game that's not only fun but comfortable for everyone. While we're aware conflicts do arise, we hope that these rules will make them few and far between.
On the flip side, if you're not interested in CR with someone, please don't be rude about telling them. Be polite, but firm, and if issues arise please contact the mods. This also goes for plotting. If you'd like your character to do whatever to another character, and the player isn't for it, please step back and accept that. Don't push. We will take action if anyone is being bullied or harassed.
Don't do it. If it's not your character, leave the choices to the player as to how they'll react. And if it's something big, plot out the details so no ones toes get stepped on.
INFOMODDING: Using OOC knowledge as IC knowledge without your character having been part of the conversation/event in question. Again, as we've stated so many times, make sure you have the okay to do this. A lot of RP issues come from things not being okayed by others, and we're really trying to avoid that.
We are 100% aware that adult situations will happen. Please either take it to journals or fade to black. Thank you.
Please don't tag yourself. It's a little awkward not in a PSL setting and sort of ruins the whole point of RP, don't you think? However, we understand and respect that your characters may cross paths and might see each other on occasion. It is okay to hand wave that your own characters have met in passing but they cannot be BFFs FIVE-EVER!!!

♦ Don't be a jerk
Simply put, please respect other RPers wishes. If they're not looking to plot with you, let it be. If they're not looking for CR with you, that's cool, too! Pushing for something someone else might not be interested in isn't at all respectful, so please keep this in mind.On the flip side, if you're not interested in CR with someone, please don't be rude about telling them. ♦ Fourth Walling
Look. We get it. Some characters might exist in your characters universe as comic book characters or people from movies or books. But unless the player is down with your character going "HEY YOU'RE FROM SUCH AND SUCH A THING!" Don't do it. Don't even hint that they might be fictional without plotting it with the other player. Even if it's a thing your character does, make sure all parties are okay with it. If you need to, slap up a permissions post and point people in it's direction. If they don't fill it out, consider it a 'no go at this station'.♦ Info-Modding/Godmodding
GODMODDING: controlling the actions of another players character without the players permission.Don't do it. If it's not your character, leave the choices to the player as to how they'll react. And if it's something big, plot out the details so no ones toes get stepped on.

♦ Sensitive/Triggering Topics
Keep it under a cut and warn for it, that's all we're asking. Your characters past has Problematic Stuff in it? That's fine and dandy, but don't shove it at people without making sure players are okay with it and please make sure to warn for it.We are 100% aware that adult situations will happen. Please either take it to journals or fade to black. Thank you.
♦ Mun/Playercest
PLAYERCEST when one player plays two or more characters that have close CR with each other. Or one player uses another of their characters to force CR with another character. Please don't tag yourself. It's a little awkward not in a PSL setting and sort of ruins the whole point of RP, don't you think? ♦ The Fantabulous FAQs
♢ OOC Info (What to know before you Play!)
How old do I have to be to play?
18 and older please. We're not saying some of the topics and plots in here will get a little mature, but we're not saying it won't.
What kind of characters don't you allow?
While we really don't mind most types of characters, we have to draw a line somewhere. That line is drawn at fandom OCs who are related to characters in the fandom. You can't bring in Severus Snapes sister/cousin/aunt/uncle/whatever blood relative that wasn't mentioned in the books. But you can bring in a Hogwarts student or a Harry Potter OC that has no ties to the main characters.
Other characters we'll have to say no to are sentient objects that won't really bring much to the game or people can only interact with if they're around it. (Think Danny Street from Doom Patrol).
Is a CRAU Character okay?
ALWAYS! Always and forever. You can bring your character in from any game, with all manner of CRAU. But if your character is from a game where the topics might make people uncomfortable, maybe put up a permissions post so that you know who is and who isn't down with hearing about it.
Note: If you app a CRAU Character who had previous CR with a character played by someone else that was not previously in the same game, please check with the mun of that character to ensure they are okay with your character remembering theirs.
Do you allow multiples of characters?
This is a touchy one, so we're going to do our best to explain. In cases like The Doctor from Doctor Who, there can be as many iterations as have shown up in the series.
In instances like characters that have presence in various types of media, if there's already one of those in game, run it past them first. For example, Someone has Tony Stark from the comics, and you want to bring in Tony Stark from Iron Man Adventures or from the MCU. Run it past the Stark that was here first. If they're good with it, you're good to go.
Just let us know on the app so we can confirm with the other player.
Can I bring a Rule!63 Character?
Only if a rule!63 version of the character exists within the canon. (think Minako from Persona 3 or Commander Shepard from Mass Effect)
Do you allow Challenge Apps?
Fluxscape operates on a 'First Come First Serve' style basis when it comes to reserves so we do not take challenge apps. The reason being is that we feel that challenge apps put added stress on both players and RP is meant to be fun and stress free.
How many Character's can I play?
Currently, we are allowing up to three character's per player. If you would like to app a fourth and have repeatedly met AC, you may ask for Mod Permission for a fourth and maybe (in the future) even a fifth.
Can I app two characters from the Same Canon?
The short answer is no. However, if your characters are from a canon where neither of them have met then we will go ahead and allow it.
My character is a minor and can’t fend for themselves!
In that case you can either have them move in with a caring and loving NPC fam, or assigned to a random character in game that have signed in to take in children. (this can either be random or planned prior.)
Do they have to go to school?
They don’t have to, but they should. Education is important, you know! If they don't physically want to attend the school, they can do remote school from the comfort of their home either on their smartphone or the school will provide a laptop. There's WiFi everywhere, no matter the setting. And if they don't want to go to school at all, that's awesome, too. Unless an adult is making them, of course.
How old does my character have to be?
Fluxscape accepts characters of all ages but let’s be sensible about how playable the character is.
My character is a vampire. How---
We're going to stop you there because we already know what you're going to ask. The sun won't hurt your vampire at all. Not even a little bit.
As for food, there'll be a very passable blood substitute found in your local grocer. There are also a couple butcher shops who won't even blink if you order a couple containers of animal blood.
And, should your vampire be the type that sparkles in the sun? You won't here. The sun reacts differently on your skin and you'll just look like your average, every day, sort of pale ( GONDOR CALLS FOR AID!!) person. And no, we aren't actually saying you'll glow like that.
My character is a were-whatever who reacts to the phases of the moon.
The full moon runs every month from the 15th to the 18th, should this information be needed. Whether or not you want to play that out, that's entirely up to you. You can say you had better control and didn't change, or you can say you did change but all you really wanted to do was lie around like the big were-whatever you are, and relax. Or you can say your character tried to cause trouble (please plot this out though.) This one, you can have fun with.
Can my character get pregnant?
Nope. Please do not. While this is SOL and that's usually part of it, we ask that you refrain at this time. Thank you.
Can my character die?
Yes, yes they can. And yes, they will come back after a week. They will appear at home as if nothing happened and something will be missing. A memory. The ability to speak. The ability to see. It's players choice. We'll RNG for how long that'll last. It can be anywhere from an hour up to a couple weeks.
Are Powers Nerfed?
Good lord, no. For the most part, no. If your character has reality warping abilities and they want to use them in a way that will affect the whole setting, run it past the mods so we can make an event of it.
My Character’s gonna Be Gay and Do Crimes~
Oh okay, cool. Before you turn to your life of crime though there are a few things you should know. The Sentient Pocket Dimension knows what you did and it will tell on you. Not blatantly of course, because that wouldn’t be any fun for anyone. So-it’ll drop hints to the officers on your case. Hopefully they’re smart enough to figure it out. If not, well then congrats on your blossoming criminal enterprises. Also, please note that if they don’t want to be gay but do want to do crimes the same rules apply.
Basically what we're saying is, plot this out with people so the crime can be solved. The Sentient Pocket Dimension is watching.
Oops! I killed an NPC!
You monster! How could you? They just want what’s best for the town. Killing NPCs, while mean and cruel is allowed if you can live with your conscience but if your character wants to go on a full out killing spree then please run it by the mods so the appropriate reactions and such can be plotted out. Remember! The Pocket Dimension is watching!
You mentioned the pocket dimension has sentience. My character is psychic. Can they communicate with the dimension?
They can try. The most they'll get back is that the dimension is very young. Very childlike, compassionate and curious about everything going on. But no actual dialogue will happen. Occasionally, laughter. Very gentle, teasing laughter.
What if I want to a canon update?
Canon updates are allowed! They will go to bed and have a dream that feels suspiciously real. When they wake up they'll find themselves slumped up against the Info Hub. Jerry is happy to see you and offers them a coupon to a business of the player's choice before he asks: "How was your trip home?"
Or, if there there was some kind of epic battle and your character was injured they'll just wake up in the hospital. The doctors and nurses might even mention they gave them a scare!
So what exactly is a Static location?
We’re so glad you asked! Simply put, it’s a location that is always the same no matter what the current landscape. Things like the grocery stores, police station, hospital and information hub are all static locations. The exterior may change but the function and location are always the same. The ground might be literal Lava but you can still get your groceries!
Okay so, what’s a Flux Location?
Basically the opposite of a Static location. These are things that are changeable or that are ‘in flux.’ Things like book shops, clothing shops, diners-that sort of thing. They’re still around in some capacity but you might have to go look for it again and they might just have completely changed their inventory. Your local coffee shop with the best cookies in town is now all Vegan. That doesn’t mean the cookies aren’t any good though!
Can I suggest Static or Flux Locations?
You sure can! On the LOCATIONS page. There'll be a form to fill out for it and we'll get back to you on it. That being said, please bear in mind that for Flux Locations we will be closing location suggestions two weeks before a setting change so that people have time to enjoy it.
♢ Activity Check, Hiatus, Drops and Apps-what you need to know!
What counts towards AC?
Our AC is currently a monthly check-in.
I need to go on Hiatus/I need to drop.
Please post to the HIATUS/DROP page to let us know. If your Hiatus goes for two weeks or longer you are exempt from AC for the month. Just Check In with your characters to remind us you were on hiatus.
What happens to my Character when I'm on hiatus?
That is really up to you! There are some fun options available such as your typical auto-pilot, they somehow turn into a gnome or garden ornament on their property, or maybe they won a special trip in the mail or even are being sent away on a business trip!
And when I drop?
The character or characters you've dropped will be collected by someone sent by Jerry. They'll be given enough time to say their goodbyes, provided you want to go that route, or they'll simply head to Jerry. Either way, they'll hand their house key and FluxPhone over to Jerry and then reappear in their own universe.
I don't have AC and forgot to hiatus!
Hey, life happens, we get you. You can take a save on your character and try again next month. However, you will need to bring your comment total for one character up to fifteen. Just one. Not more than that. The other characters will still just need ten.
How many saves do I get?
One at a time. If you use one on the current month you will not be able to take a save the following month. Although, if something has come up please contact the Mods. We are really a very understanding bunch and are happy to work with you! We just need you to communicate!
When is the monthly AC?
AC starts on the first of the month and runs through the fifth. The Sixth and Seventh day of the month is considered 'crunch time' in which we will reach out to people who have not submitted their AC.
What if I need to drop?
We are very sorry to see you go. Please post to the drop post and your Character will be collected by an NPC and sent back home.
When are Apps open?
At this moment, apps are permanently open. We have changed our apps to fit the new form of the game.
♢ Your Character's new life in Fluxscape.
Where will my character live?
Upon arriving your character will have the clothes on their backs and a key in their pocket wrapped in a piece of paper that will have an address written on it. This is your character's new house. You may claim a house or apartment HERE.
How do new arrivals work?
Character will first arrive next to the Information Hub which is run by a man named Jerry. He greets them with a smile gives them their welcome packets and brochures. "Welcome to (Current Setting Here)!" He also suggests that they check their pocket.
My character shows up injured! Do they still start at the information hub?
No, they do not! They will wake up in the hospital with doctors and nurses hovering over them, taking the best care of them. And at some point when things settle, one of the hospitals candy strippers will bring you a gift bag from Jerry, containing everything you'd pick up at the information hub, a get well card and a small teddy bear.
What all is in the Welcome Packet?
Everything your character will need to start their new life in Fluxscape. Such as a map of the area, a debit card for purchases for one month, a Fluxphone, and an aid to find a job. This package will also contain information on where to find available housing.
How does my Character get Money?
With a job, of course! Yes, adult characters are recommended to have a job and No, you don’t have to play out every day at the office or even post about it. Just post a thing on the Job Post and claim one that sounds good to your character.
How well does the job pay?
Well enough that can pay their bills and actually save money for emergencies and recreation. Rent is very, very cheap.
Can my Character Start their own business?
Of course! Starting your own business is even encouraged! You’ll need to go before the city council though and apply for a business grant. You’ll probably get an approval so long as you’re not proposing to murder clients. The Council tends to frown on that sorta thing.
Is my Character’s Business Static?
Yes. They worked hard for it and we’re not gonna take that away from your characters or their employees.
How do NPCs work?
They’re just around. You can handwave interactions with them, feature them in a post or log-they’re just people that happen to live in sentient pocket dimension and don’t tend to notice when the setting changes. If you ask them about it they’ll tell you ‘they have no idea what you mean-we’ve always been on a weird spaceship that’s theoretically too big to even work.’
What can the Fluxphones do?
Your Fluxphone has many fascinating capabilities. On top of being able to call anyone on the network for a private conversation (your directory is updated with each arrival and departure), you'll also be able to connect with groups of people and the network at large. With features such as video chat, voice chat, photos and texting, it's easy to stay in contact with everyone in town.
Your smartphone comes with a music player, too! You'll be able to enjoy music from your universe with the touch of a button and be able to send and share playlists to your friends! Enjoy!
Not only that, but just the touch of a button alerts local emergency services and can be programmed to ping specific people in case of an emergency.
